Nel was the grandmother of John Stape. She had shared a close relationship with her grandson, and after her passing in 2008 she had left John her house in the countryside in her will. John used her house to keep kidnapped Rosie Webster. While serving his sentence in Highfield Prison, he sent Rosie a visiting order and upon her arrival, informed her that by way of compensation, he was giving her £150,000 - the money from the sale of Nel's house.
