Mrs Wilkes was a customer in the corner shop who remarked sarcastically about the prices when Alf Roberts gave her a cheery goodbye, and then returned to question the small amount of change she thought she had been given.
Three months later, she was equally unsatisfied when she was a customer on the first day at the hair salon that Audrey Roberts set up in the front room of 11 Coronation Street, complaining when the pins hurt her head and telling Alf that she was surprised that he had got himself involved in a such a "cowboy outfit".
