Mrs Flanagan was the housekeeper to Father Bennett of St. Theresa's RC Church. Harry Hewitt and Concepta Riley were engaged to be married and the bride was of the Catholic faith. They made an appointment to see the priest about arranging the wedding and Harry was nervous that his fiancee would be talked out of the engagement. He was therefore thrown when Mrs Flanagan told him to wait while Concepta was shown into the study alone. Later in the year, she was present when Father Bennett reconciled Concepta with her parents who had previously been opposed to the match.
