Mrs Brown was an occupant of an old folk's bungalow and a neighbour of Nancy Leathers when she moved into the adjoining property in September 1961.

Before moving in, Nancy showed good friend Albert Tatlock round the unfurnished residence where Mrs Brown interrupted them, offering a cup of tea and thinking they were a married couple, much to their amusement.

Nancy moved in a few days later with the help of grandson Ken Barlow, Valerie Tatlock and Albert and after they had gone Mrs Brown was her first visitor, asking if she would like to come round to her bungalow and watch television with her. Afraid of being lonely, Nancy happily accepted the offer.
