When Curly Watts made the decision to stand against Audrey Roberts in the upcoming council election, he enlisted the help of Emily Bishop with his campaign and the pair began (disastrously) canvassing for votes through the streets of Weatherfield in May 2001.
While talking to Mrs Brook about his manifesto policies, the woman interrupted Curly - recognising him as the manager of Freshco and immediately began questioning why certain products cost significantly more there than the superstore on Bridge Street (specifically nappies and cans of baked beans). When Curly tried to explain that a smaller outlet couldn't compete with the retail giants, Mrs Brooks brusquely told him that if he wanted to do something for the community then he should be looking to start in his own shop.
