Mr Harris read out the charges against Elsie Tanner when she appeared to be tried for stealing from her employers, Miami Modes, in November 1969. The exact charge as read out was that of stealing two dresses valued at eighteen guineas contrary to the theft act of 1968. Elsie took the option of being tried at Weatherfield Magistrates Court rather than quarter sessions before a jury. After hearing the evidence, the case was dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
Two years later, he read out further charges against a Street resident when Jerry Booth appeared in court of a charge of assaulting Stan Ogden's friend Jim Stoker. Harris offered Jerry the choice of being tried at the Magistrates' Court or by jury, to which Jerry chose the latter. In this instance, Jerry was found guilty and given a conditional discharge for twelve months.
