Mike Kenny appeared on Coronation Street in June 1987 as a man looking at the vacancy cards in the Job Centre window alongside Curly Watts .
He trained as an English and Drama teacher and then worked for the Theatre in Education Company at the Leeds Playhouse. After a spell as a freelance actor, he started to become a writer of plays, mainly for children and has since gone on to write over one hundred plays, including a dramatisation of The Railway Children which won him an Olivier award.
He is married to actress Barbara Marten, who herself appeared on Coronation Street. The couple have three children.
