Michael Apted

Michael David Apted CMG (born 10th February, 1941) is an award-winning film and television director. He directed 24 episodes of Coronation Street from June 1966 to July 1967 after which he went on to great acclaim for helping create and perpetuate the 7 Up series of documentaries. Michael has subsequently directed such high profile films as Gorillas In The Mist, Extreme Measures, The World Is Not Enough and Enigma. He is a former director of the Directors Guild of America and is one of the current governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, best known for their annual "Oscar" awards.

He has written that directing Coronation Street could be a strain and remembered trying to keep Violet Carson and Patricia Phoenix from "coming to blows" in the rehearsal room.
