Melody was the photography class tutor for Ken Barlow and Beth Sutherland's evening classes that were held in Roy's Rolls, where she taught the class about the "rule of thirds". Ken later showed her some of his pictures, as she told Ken and Beth about a photography competition that the Weatherfield Gazette were running. It was then that Melody stated that she meant to mention it in the evening class but forgot to. Melody informed the pair that she was going to send the news of the competition to them and the other students by email.
Melody returned a couple of days later to inform Beth that her picture of Bertie Osbourne - that Melody herself had decided to caption as 'Where's Mummy' - had made it through the Gazette's smartphone photos competition and to the finals. Melody told Beth that she had a good chance of winning the competition overall, and the image that she took of Bertie had a high chance of featuring in the Gazette due to her victory.
