Melanie was a woman who on 20th July 2009 attended an open Alcoholic Anonymous meeting at the Rita Tushingham Community Centre in Manchester. She defended recovering alcoholic Ross against the verbal onslaught of an unsympathetic Blanche Hunt. When Melanie said she found Ross's comments interesting, Blanche quipped: "You want to get out more. Wait till you try bingo, you'll hyperventilate!"
