The unnamed Mayor and his Lady Mayoress attended the funeral of former councillor and Mayor of Weatherfield Alf Roberts in January 1999.
He passed on the condolences of all members of Weatherfield Council to widow Audrey Roberts and reminded her that Alf had been appointed as the council's "Mr Millennium" as part of the celebrations to mark the onset of the twenty-first century. Instead the title was offered to her, though amended to be "Mrs Millennium". Audrey, though touched, was dubious about accepting the honour, thinking that it made her sound ancient.
