Matthew James Dunster (born 1969 in Oldham) appeared on Coronation Street intermittently between October 2000 and October 2001 as Ryan Sykes, brother of Linda Sykes/Baldwin.

He trained at Bretton Hall where he graduated in Drama with first class honours.

His other credits include roles in Springhill, New Voices, Always and Everyone, Casualty, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Heartbeat, Doctors, No Angels, Conviction, Murder Prevention, Silent Witness, Vincent and Pulling, along with the films Peaches, It's Your Movie, Special People and Searching.

He switched to writing and directing, winning acclaim for his one-man play You Can See The Hills which opened at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester in 2008 and then moved to the Young Vic in London (of which he was an associate director). Other writing credits for the stage include You Used To, Tell Me, The Glazier and Two Clouds Over Eden. His work for radio includes the plays Depth of Field and Poor Echo and he also directed the radio play Love and Money. His more recent work includes directing a successful series of Shakespearean plays for the Young Vic.
