Marion Dawson (born "Marion Ashworth" on 18th October 1888 in Rochdale, died 24th March 1975 in Scarborough) appeared on Coronation Street in three roles:
- Matilda Grimshaw who in May 1962 lived in another street named "Coronation Street" which the council wished to rename, much to her annoyance
- A complaining woman in the corner shop in November 1963
- Elli Jane Peters who lost her granddaughter Sonia Peters in the viaduct crash disaster in May 1967.
She began her career as an opera singer and turned to acting as a comedienne when her voice failed. That career came to an end when she lost an eye in a fireworks accident in 1932 but she continued to work, appearing in "quota quickie" films such as The Last Coupon, The Love Nest and A Political Party. Later television work included Be Soon, BBC Sunday-Night Play and City '68.
