Margaret Jackman (born December 1937 in Newcastle) appeared on Coronation Street in May 2013 as Dorothy, an old friend of Sylvia Goodwin's, and she returned to the programme in April 2019 as Rosalind Porter, a potential victim of loan shark Rick Neelan.

Margaret began her acting career at the age of 19, in weekly rep. at the Pier Pavilion, South Shields. There followed several years of touring and resident theatre until, in 1963 she entered higher education at Leicester University. There she met and married George and accompanied him to Tanzania where she was recruited locally to teach English.  After five years in East Africa, and now with a very young family, Margaret returned to the UK and continued in teaching until the last of the children was off to university in 1988, when she returned to acting, with small roles in All Creatures Great and Small and  the TV film Precious Bane.

While continuing to work freelance, Margaret gained an MA in Theatre and Performing Arts at Rose Bruford College in 2002; and, as her involvement in community theatre grew, studied at Staffordshire University where she graduated with an MA in Commuity and Participatory Practice in 2012. Her other television roles include parts in George Gently, Heartbeat, Emmerdale, Shameless and See No Evil as Myra Hindley's grandmother; and Elsie in Care on  Sky Arts Playhouse. On film she has been seen in Anita and MeControl and Convenience while on the stage she has appeared, among other theatre and site-speciific productions in Memoires of a Biscuit Tin, Lord Hatherton’s Penny.

Margaret also works freelance as a children's, special needs, elderly and intergenerational drama workshop deviser and facilitator.; and is a volunteer with Shoebox Theatre cic a not-for-profit community theatre .
