Marc was suddenly sacked from his role in September 2016 after launching a racist attack on Indian people on the social networking site, Twitter. This was the first time a Corrie actor had been sacked for bad behaviour since 2013 when [[Chris Fountain]], who played [[Tommy Duckworth]], was sacked for an offensive rap about rape.

Marc Anwar is an actor who has played businessman Sharif Nazir in Coronation Street since February 2014.

A graduate of the London Academy of Dramatic Art, he has built up a long list of appearances since the early 1990s in series such as Boon, Emmerdale, Doctors, Common as Muck, Holby City, Dalziel and Pascoe and Citizen Khan. He remains best known for the role of the dictatorial father George in productions of East is East as well as Orange, Twelfth Night and The Duchess of Malfi. His film roles include Captain Phillips, Pusher, 51st State, My Son The Fanatic and Brother’s In Trouble.
