Malcolm Tierney (25th February 1938 - 18th February 2014) appeared in Coronation Street in March 2003 as Shelley Unwin's uncle, Lenny Baker.
He took part in amateur dramatics after working as a textile designer and printmaker and gained a scholarship to the Rose Bruford Training College of Speech after his talent was spotted. His first work was in 1962 at the Mermaid theatre, London in Red Roses for Me and his television debut was two years later in No Hiding Place. He has also appeared in The Human Jungle, The Plane Makers, Public Eye, Out of the Unknown, Play for Today, The Main Chance, Z Cars, The Sweeney, Poldark, Lillie, Crime and Punishment, Strangers, Crown Court, The Spoils of War, The Gentle Touch, Brookside, C.A.T.S. Eyes, Bergerac, Doctor Who, A Bit of a Do, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, House of Cards, Van der Valk, Lovejoy, The Bill, Dalziel and Pascoe, Heartbeat, Holby City, Midsomer Murders and Doctors.
Film roles include The Eagle Has Landed, Star Wars, McVicar, Little Dorrit, In the Name of the Father, Braveheart, The Saint, Shiner, The Final Curtain, Fever and Great Expectations.
On stage he also appeared in The Knickers, The Three Musketeers, One for the Pot, Lady Windermere’s Fan, Love for Love, Twelfth Night, A Touch of the Poet, Richard III, Richard II, Mr Lowry, The Price, Hecuba, The Seagull and several productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1974 to 1975.
