Malcolm Teeson was a car dealer at an upmarket showroom that Jack Duckworth and Don Brennan visited in August 1995.
Jack had inherited £30,000 after the death of his brother Clifford and wanted to buy the car of his dreams. Don warned him that the five-speed automatic transmission Mercedes convertible that he had his eye on was worth more than his available cash but Jack intended to only put down a deposit from his windfall. They reckoned without the supercilious attitude of Mr Teeson who looked at the two men with a hypercritical eye and warned Jack with mannered condescension that the car and the owner should be compatible and to try to mix the two styles would demean both. Annoyed at his manner, Don stepped forward claiming to be "Mr Duckworth"'s chauffeur and the vehicle was taken back to Coronation Street for a test drive with an askance Mr Teeson accompanying them in the back.
There, employee "Donald" had to vacate the car as a priest had unexpectedly called to see him. Jack had posed as the owner of the majority of the properties on the street and was outraged when Mr Teeson questioned why he allowed his tenants to spoil them, such as putting up the "hideous stone cladding" outside No.9. Jack had to drive the car back to showroom himself and, unused to an automatic transmission, had a bumpy return journey which he blamed on the vehicle itself and therefore decided not to purchase it.
