Malcolm Hebden as Norris

Malcolm Hebden (born 21st December 1939 in Chester) is a British actor most famous for his role on Coronation Street as nosey newsagent Norris Cole, a part he played intermittently between March 1994 and April 1997, before coming back to the programme as a permanent character in December 1999, where he remained until a temporary departure in December 2017. He later returned on a recurring basis, appearing from May to June 2020. Malcolm also appeared on the Street from July 1974 to March 1975 as Spaniard Carlos, a love interest of Mavis Riley. Between these two roles he also appeared in the Street spin-off The Brothers McGregor.

In December 2017, Malcolm suffered a silent heart attack and was put into an induced coma for three weeks, and he received life saving surgery. It was reported in January 2018 that he was taking a break from the show for personal reasons, although the exact details weren't revealed until July that year. In November 2018 it was revealed that he was returning to the show, and his return scenes aired in May 2019, although this was stated to be a temporary basis. His last scenes as the character aired the following month, although show bosses have said that the door would be open for the actor to return. Malcolm returned again for two episodes in October 2019, and then a single episode in December 2019. He appeared on a slightly more permanent basis from February to June 2020, before Hebden permanently retired from the role, although this wasn't reported until January 2021. The character was killed off-screen that September.

His other credits include roles in Adam Smith, Crown Court, The Spoils of War, Spyship, A Bit of a Do, Plaza Patrol, Heartbeat and as Oliver Shawcross in the short-lived Granada Television soap opera Albion Market.
