Lucie Fernsby was a fellow inmate of Yasmeen Metcalfe when she was held on remand in Norcross Prison on a charge of the attempted murder of her controlling husband Geoff. The two were organisers of the prison library and Lucie saw that her friend was distracted when she misfiled the books, thinking she might be tired because "screaming Stacey" had kept them awake all night. Yasmeen confessed that Geoff had just contacted her, asking her to go back to him and Lucie told her he was lying with his assurances, albeit she had always returned to her abusive ex when he asked her, her own reluctance to cut all ties being put down by her mental health nurse as due to problems with her self-esteem.
Unsure herself what to do, Yasmeen needed to speak to Geoff again although such contact was strictly against the rules. Lucie provided her with a contraband phone for her to use in exchange for a deoderant stick, two packs of biscuits and a bag of sweets. Yasmeen was having second thoughts about making further contact with Geoff but Lucie advised her to do so, saying she couldn't have Geoff continue to control her. As per Geoff's intentions, the call successfully unbalanced Yasmeen's thoughts against him when he gave an admission that he might need professional help for his behaviour, saying he had just been scared of losing her. Lucie's facial expressions told Yasmeen everything she needed to know as to how much she believed Geoff's words herself.
Yasmeen received a request to meet a representative of the Women in Prison charity who turned out to be Geoff's previously-unknown first wife, Elaine Jones. She took Yasmeen through her experiences at her ex's hands which mirrored her own with the exception of acts of violence. Desperate not to believe the truth, Yasmeen latched on to this critical discrepancy as an excuse not to believe her and Elaine warned her to read up on such coercive control techniques. Knowing the confusion in her friend's mind and the wisdom of Elaine's advice, Lucie obtained such a book from the library for her to read.
