Louis was an ex-boyfriend of Sean Tully. The pair were together for just over three years and owned a dog named Shandy. The pair split when Sean found Louis in their bed with a girl from work named Jodie, however Louis got the custody rights of Shandy.
In March 2005, Sean arrived at 11 Coronation Street in tears and revealed Shandy had died. Although Sean's friend Violet Wilson sympathised with Sean, her boyfriend Jason Grimshaw was angry at Sean, criticising him for getting so upset over a dog. Sean blamed Louis for the death of Shandy, claiming that he must not have been feeding him properly.
Louis invited Sean to the funeral of Shandy at the pet cemetery later that day. Sean paid tribute to Shandy with an emotional rendition of Mandy by Barry Manilow, with the appropriate lyric changed to match the dog's name. This bemused Louis and he declined Sean's invitation to join in.
Louis joined Sean and Eileen Grimshaw at Shandy's wake at the Rovers. Louis revealed he was a hypnotist and impressed Eileen by getting her to refuse a cheese and onion crisp. Sean remained angry at Louis and continued to criticise him for his negligence regarding Shandy. Louis hit back at Sean, saying that Shandy "wanted for nothing".
Louis was later invited back to No.11 where he, Eileen, Violet and Jason decided to play a prank on Sean. When Eileen suggested that Louis should attempt his hypnosis on Jason in order to cure him of his fear of heights, Jason pretended to fancy Sean.
