London Weekend Television (LWT) was the ITV network franchise holder for Greater London and the Home Counties at weekends, broadcasting from Friday evening at 17:15 (19:00 until 1982) to Monday morning at 6:00. The station launched on 2nd August 1968, replacing ATV as the franchise holder for London's weekend television service.
The first episode of Coronation Street broadcast by LWT was Episode 2981 on 20th October 1989, following the addition of a third weekly episode to the schedule.
Since 2002, LWT has been managed along with Carlton Television, London's weekday franchise holder since 1993, as a single entity, ITV London, though legally both franchises remain separate.
