Liam Anthony Connor is the son of Maria Connor, born in 2009. His father is the late Liam Connor, who was murdered on Tony Gordon's orders early in Maria's pregnancy.

At fourteen, Liam was targetted by bully Mason Radcliffe, causing him to contemplate taking his own life, but he eventually spoke out causing Dylan Wilson to be suspended from Weatherfield High. Liam lives with his mother, stepfather Gary Windass, and stepbrother Jake at 5 Victoria Court, Weatherfield.

Biography

Liam is the son of Maria and the late Liam Connor. His older brother, Paul, was stillborn a year before Liam was born.

After Liam's father was killed in a hit and run organised by Tony Gordon in October 2008, Maria discovered she was pregnant. She gave birth to Liam in July 2009 with the help of his father's killer Tony, who helped support Maria and was to later have a relationship with her. Maria named her baby Liam in honour of her late husband, and also gave him the middle name Anthony, in honour of Tony.

When it was later discovered that Tony was a murderer, Maria moved to Ireland along with Liam to live with his grandparents Barry and Helen Connor, but they returned to Weatherfield in 2010, moving into 2a Coronation Street, the flat above Audrey's salon.

Liam would later find another father figure in the form of Marcus Dent who in 2012 began a relationship with his mother. However this family unit would come to an end in March 2014, when Marcus slept with Todd Grimshaw, prompting Maria to throw Marcus out and bar him from seeing Liam. After a nervous breakdown, Maria took Liam to see her parents in Cyprus, and when they returned she allowed Liam to see Marcus and made up with him. They said goodbye to Marcus when he left Weatherfield in July 2014 after splitting up from Todd.

In 2016 Maria married Argentinian Pablo Duarte, in order to help him return to the UK. She later made a full confession to the police after coming under suspicion of Caz Hammond's murder. She was cleared of that charge when Caz was found alive and well, but with the sham marriage charge hanging over her, Maria was forced to explain to Liam she may be going away for a while. On Christmas Eve that year, Maria was sentenced to twelve months in prison, leaving Liam distraught. When Darryl, the pet rat of Craig Tinker, died after chewing through some electric cables in February 2017, Liam called the police. Tearfully, he falsely confessed to the "murder", hoping he would be taken to prison to be with his mum. Liam's spirits were raised when Eva Price escorted him to visit Maria in prison, where the two shared an emotional reunion. She was later released after only three months due to good behaviour.

Liam gained a new father figure in 2020 when Maria married Gary Windass, although he wasn't present at the service. In August 2021, Liam developed a chesty cough and while playing football in the street with Jack Webster, collapsed struggling to breathe. He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was diagnosed with asthma and given an inhaler.

Background information

Liam Connor Jr 2012

Twins Ollie & Elliott Barnett as Liam Connor in 2012.

Liam was played by Imogen Moore and Logan Pearson from his birth in July 2009 until November of that year when the character was temporarily written out as Samia Smith, who plays his mother Maria, went on maternity leave. Both characters returned in June 2010 with Ollie and Elliott Barnett taking over the role of Liam. The twins appeared as the character until August 2012, and the role was subsequently recast to Charlie Wrenshall in October 2012, although Wrenshall only made a single voice-only appearance during that month, with his first physical appearance occurring in November.

Liam was absent for a 17-month period between Episode 10022 (4th March 2020) and Episode 10408 (20th August 2021) due to restrictions imposed on child actors in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Liam wasn't written out of the programme during the lengthy absence and remained living with Maria during that time.
