Kate Rutter (born in Leeds) appeared on Coronation Street in three roles:
- Solicitor Jo Marsh, who represented Liz McDonald during divorce procedings against husband Jim in March 1996
- Humanist celebrant Suzie Forrester, who arranged and conducted Hayley Cropper's funeral in January 2014
- DS Beckett, who appeared intermittently between March 2019 and September 2022.
She trained at Rose Bruford College in the 1970s.
Best known for her role as Miriam in River City from 2012 to 2013, her other television credits include roles in Boon, Emmerdale, Heartbeat, Earthfasts, Ain't Misbehavin, The Bill, EastEnders, Undercover Heart, Queer as Folk, Clocking Off, Doctors, Holby City, Silent Witness, Scott & Bailey, DCI Banks, His Dark Materials, Better, The Long Shadow and Truelove.
Film roles include The Full Monty, Heart, Pierrepoint, Affinity, The Arbor, Oranges and Sunshine, The Railway Man, I, Daniel Blake and Peterloo.
On stage, she appeared in productions of The Cracked Pot, Steaming and House & Garden.
She is also a writer, director and prize-winning poet.
