Julius Caesar is a play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1599.
In Coronation Street, Bessie Street School put on a production of the play towards the end of 1963 and Ken Barlow took over the rehearsals. Whilst Valerie Barlow had some sympathies with the pressures of Ken's job when some of the rehearals took place at their home at 9 Coronation Street, she soon grew impatient with Ken's obsession with the play and also took a dislike to fellow teacher Dave Robbins. As cracks appeared in Ken and Val's relationship, particularly following the death of pupil Susan Schofield when she was run over outside the school, she grew closer to Dave and they eventually had an affair.
