Johnny Panic was the stage name of an aspiring pop star who auditioned for Dennis Tanner at northern office of impresario Lenny Phillips. Dennis was the subject of an unwelcome visit at the time from Elsie Tanner and Christine Appleby who were nosying about the premises and mocking his pretensions to being at the heart of showbusiness. Johnny's arrival didn't help matters when he referred to Dennis as "Mr Channer" with Dennis then cheerfully called him "Russ Havoc" as that was the name emblazoned across the back of his leather jacket. "Johnny" had to correct him - that was the name of his brother whose jacket he had borrowed. A slightly-flustered Dennis covered up his confusion in front of his mother and her lodger and made them clear out in order that he could listen to his potential new star's talents.
