John Junkin (29th January 1930 - 7th March 2006) appeared on Coronation Street as Bill Fielding, a married man who picked up Elsie Tanner at the Lord Nelson pub in April 1981.

Born in Ealing, London, he worked as a teacher in the city but after becoming disillusioned with the job, joined the Joan Littlewood Theatre Workshop in 1960 and went on to enjoy a successful career as an actor, comedian and scriptwriter - penning for series' such as The Army Game, The World of Beachcomber and Queenie's Castle. He contributed to many of the Morecambe and Wise specials for the BBC. He also co-wrote The Fosdyke Saga and worked in collaboration with The Grumbleweeds for radio.

His other credits include roles in The Odd Man, The Plane Makers, Doctor Finlay's Casebook, Dixon of Dock Green, Emergency-Ward 10, The Avengers, Marty, The Goodies, Z Cars, The Sweeney, The Professionals, Out, Inspector Morse, McCready and Daughter, EastEnders, Doctors and films including Doctor in Love, The Brain, The Primitives, The Pumpkin Eater, Doctor in Clover, The Plank, Confessions of a Driving Instructor, Confessions from a Holiday Camp, A Handful of Dust and The Football Factory.

On stage he appeared in productions of Maggie May, The Four Musketeers!, Wife Begins at Forty, Sylvia's Wedding and Talent.
