John Barrett (18th February, 1910 - 22nd May, 1983) was born "Jack Elvyn Barrett", and started out as an Assistant Stage Manager in repertory theatre before beginning his acting career in 1954. As well has having a long association with the Royal Court Theatre in the 1960s, Barrett's TV and film appearances spanned twenty-five years.

In Coronation Street he played two roles: Mr Stark in May 1961 and Monty Shawcross between October and November 1980.

With over one hundred TV and film credits to his name, some of the better-known include roles in Quatermass and the Pit, Saturday Playhouse, Maigret, BBC Sunday-Night Play, The Saint, Nearest and Dearest, The Dustbinmen, Jackanory, Dixon of Dock Green, The Liver Birds, Clochemerle, Z Cars, Robin's Nest, The Cuckoo Waltz, Porridge, All Creatures Great and Small, The French Lieutenant's Woman and Objects of Affection.
