Actress Joanne Mitchell has appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly as the Sonographer at Weatherfield General who performed an ultrasound scan on a heavily-pregnant Maria Connor in April 2009; and she returned to the programme in June and July 2018 as Marsha Clifton, mother of Kayla.

Having completed a three year course at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 1997, she has gained experience in TV and film, theatre and radio. Her credits include roles in Licence to Live, Casualty, Holding On, Bad Girls, Heartbeat, Holby City, Doctors, A Touch of Frost, Emmerdale, Waterloo Road, Síol and Justice.

On the other side of the camera she was credited as producer on films entitled Inbred and Magpie, and as starring in, writing and producing the zombie film Bad Dawn alongside husband Dominic Brunt - best known for the long-running role of vet Paddy Kirk in Emmerdale.

In January 2018 she furthered her writing career when she joined the Coronation Street storylining team, her first credit being Episode 9361 (24th January 2018).
