Jim Loach (born 6th June, 1969) worked as a director on 15 episodes of Coronation Street between July and December 2000. The son of acclaimed director Ken Loach, he studied philosophy at university with the intention of becoming a journalist but moved to direction after working on World in Action for Granada Television. In a 2010 interview with The Guardian, he told how he tried to introduce improvisation into the dialogue in his Coronation Street work in the same style as his father and was told under no uncertain terms that was not how the programme worked. He did say though that "for my gran it was the absolute pinnacle of my career. And there was nothing that my dad had done before or since that could top it…"
He has also directed episodes of Footballers' Wives, Bad Girls, Waterloo Road, Shameless, Casualty and its two spin-off programmes Holby City and Holby Blue.
