Jim Cartwright (born 27th June 1958 in Bolton) is one of eight people who have both appeared in and written for Coronation Street. He wrote six episodes of the programme transmitted between January and June 2011 (the other seven writer/actors are S. Keith James, Alick Hayes, Ray H. Dunbobbin, Stephen Mallatratt, Bob Mason, Martyn Hesford and Ian Kershaw). He returned to the programme on the other side of the camera in September 2016 as Nigel Warner, husband of Nessa and "assumed" father of Alex Warner.

As an actor he has been credited for television roles in In the Flesh, The Village, Foyle's War, WPC 56, From Darkness and Safe House, along with the 2015 film Caravan.

His first play Road won a number of awards before being adapted for television and broadcast by the BBC. His other adaptations include Vroom, A Rua, Wedded, Bed, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Strumpet, Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise, Johnny Shakespeare and King of the Teds.
