Jill Summers (8th December, 1910 - 11th January, 1997) was a British actress, music hall performer and comedienne best known for her role as blue-rinsed pensioner Phyllis Pearce on Coronation Street from 1982 to 1996. Prior to her casting as Phyllis, she appeared on the programme between November and December 1972 as cleaner Bessie Proctor. Jill achieved success in comedy during World War II, and her other television credits include Follyfoot and How We Used to Live.
From 1993, Jill was plagued with ill-health, but refused to allow the part of Phyllis to be written out and continued to make appearances until Spring 1996. She passed away several months after her last appearance.
