Jeff was a crooked associate of Pat Phelan's.
Jason Grimshaw's father, Tony Stewart had died in April 2016 and a mournful Jason finished off clearing out his things. This included a lock-up at a container yard which he, Phelan and Todd Grimshaw went to inspect. They found it full of stolen goods such as computers which Jason refused to sell on and stated instead that he wanted to go to charity. Behind his back, Phelan rang Jeff and suggested the items might be of interest to him, aiming to make himself some money. Todd overheard the conversation and when Jeff turned up at the yard and suggested putting it in his van to decide the total worth of the goods, he started to film events on his mobile. Phelan wanted £4,000 for the items, but Jeff offered half that, stating that they were so hot he would need to wear oven gloves to handle them. They settled on £3,000 but Phelan spotted Todd filming him as the cash changed hands and the wily builder asked Jeff to take him to his place where he could use his printer. Later on, when accused by Todd of deceit, Phelan handed over just £2,000 of the cash to Jason, claiming he found receipts for all the items and was therefore able to sell them legitimately.
