Jane Danson was born 8th November, 1978 in Bury. She first played Leanne Battersby from 1997 - 2000, returning to the role in 2004. She initially auditioned for the role of Zoe Tattersall. Other television roles have included PC Gemma Osbourne in The Bill, Monica Jones in The Grand, and Eileen Critchley in Alan Bleasedale's G.B.H., which was her TV debut in 1991 (under the name of Jane Dawson). Another early TV appearance was in Children’s Ward.

Jane appeared in the second series of Soapstar Superstar, as did Tupele Dorgu and Antony Cotton (who won). She was eliminated from the first public vote, where she was up against Tupele, despite neither of them actually being in that days' bottom two.
