James Masters (born 23rd June 1949 in Newcastle-under-Lyme) appeared on Coronation Street in seven roles:
- Brian and Gail Tilsley's troublesome neighbour Ernie Ratcliffe in both August and December 1985
- A police sergeant who appeared intermittently between June 1991 and February 1993 (although his appearance on 25th December 1991 was credited as "Policeman")
- Sergeant Grant in September 1995
- Inspector Todd of Social Services in February 1999
- Alasdair Troughton in January 2001
- Chris Leatham, a teacher at Weatherfield Comprehensive in June 2003
- The station manager at Weatherfield Community Fire Station, appearing intermittently between October 2011 and July 2013.
He also appeared in The Talent Contest, an episode of Street spin-off The Brothers McGregor, transmitted in October 1985.
His other credits include roles in The Practice, First Among Equals, Peak Practice, Emmerdale, The Grand, Heartbeat, Clocking Off, Linda Green, Doctors and New Street Law.
On stage, he appeared in productions of A Man's a Man, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, Song for a Dark Queen and The Winter's Tale.
