Jack Carr (born "Wilfred Aldborough Carr" on 21st November 1940 in Kirby Cane, Norfolk; died 2018 in Essex) appeared on Coronation Street between October and December 1984 as Police Sergeant Tony Cunliffe.
Educated at Bungay Grammar School in Suffolk, he studied History at Leeds University where he enjoyed drama and acting before attending Manchester University's drama department. He then went into rep.
Best remembered for the regular roles of Philip Mercer in Castle Haven in 1969, PC Covill in Z Cars from 1971 to 1972 and Tom Merrick in Emmerdale from 1984 to 1988, his other television credits included Crown Court, Juliet Bravo, Death of an Expert Witness, Brookside, How We Used to Live, Bleak House, Seal Morning, Truckers, Tales of Sherwood Forest, The Bill, Making Out, The Wars of the Roses, EastEnders, Casualty, Heartbeat, London's Burning and Doctors.
Film roles included 10 Rillington Place, The Innocent, Business as Usual and The Crying Game.
On stage, he appeared in productions of Deadlock, The Wars of the Roses, An Enemy of the People, The Seagull, The Nose, Saint Joan and Edward II.
For radio, he was heard in a 1972 dramatisation of Sylvia's Lovers, The Kidnappers, The British Army and the British Soldier and several productions of Afternoon Theatre, Drama Now, Saturday-Night Theatre and Midweek Theatre.
