Iain MacLeod joined Coronation Street as a researcher in 2006, becoming a storyliner (then termed a "story associate") the following year for 514 episodes from June 2007 to July 2009. He then immediately became the story editor until September 2013 for 1076 episodes and oversaw storylines including Jack Duckworth's death, the fiftieth anniversary tram crash and Carla Connor's rape.
He married script editor Verity Ellis in 2013.
Iain left the programme in 2013 to join Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks as series editor, before being promoted to series producer shortly afterwards. In September 2015, it was announced he would take over the role of series producer of Emmerdale from Kate Oates, who would subsequently become the new producer of Coronation Street.
He took over as producer of Coronation Street in 2018 following the departure of Kate Oates being first credited on Episode 9636 (12th December 2018) and leaving the role with Episode 11287/8 (10th June 2024) after which he became the programme's executive producer.
