Howard Ward appeared in Coronation Street in July 2016 and April 2017 as Martin, the Mayor of Weatherfield.

For a younger audience, he voiced the characters Mr Rails and Bakerloo in the children's series Underground Ernie.

As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company he has appeared on stage in The Two Noble Kinsmen, The Balcony, The Great White Hope, The Triumph of the Egg, The Winter's Tale, Speculators, As You Like It, All’s Well That Ends Well while for the Royal National Theatre he has appeared in The Wind in the Willows, The Night of the Iguana, Macbeth, The Mountain Giants, The Mountain Giants, The Good Hope, War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
