Hotel Verdale

The Hotel Verdale was an establishment in Torquay that Jack and Annie Walker stayed in for a holiday in July 1961. Jack had wanted to go fishing in Scotland instead but inevitably Annie had got her way. They had written to the Excelsior, a hotel they had stayed in several times before but, with the brewery only agreeing to supply a relief manager late in the day, that hotel had been booked up and they had suggested the Verdale. It was only with a couple of weeks to go that Jack was horrified to suddenly recall that he had forgotten to post the letter confirming the booking. He asked son Billy to put it in the postbox but hide the delay from his mother. In the event, the omission caused no problems.
