Harry was the doorman at the Community Centre the night that the results in the May 1987 Weatherfield Borough Council election results were counted and called. He manned the entrance together with a policeman and only allowed in people who had an official pass. Percy Sugden, as caretaker of the premises, had been an insufferable jobsworth all day, putting cones outside the centre to prevent any parking which might upset the democratic process. He had even yelled at Harry in the morning to "shift that car before you get shot!" Come the night, the policeman barred Percy from entering the count as he wasn't in possession of a pass and Harry was equally pleased to tell Percy that with no pass, there was no admission and, for good measure, shut the doors in his flabbergasted face.

Credited as "Doorman", the character's first name was given in dialogue when candidate Alf Roberts greeted him.
