George Stubbins was the horse-leader who led the coalman's nag on which Annie Walker rode as Lady Godiva in the Co-op's "Pageant of the Ages" in 1933.
Thirty years later, on Christmas Day 1963, he was one the surprise guests as a specially-staged This Is Your Life that was sprung on Annie in the Glad Tidings Mission Hall by Dennis Tanner. Annie had enjoyed the evening up to that point but froze Mr Stubbins with a look when he was brought on stage. To Annie's horror, a photograph of her on the horse (taken from the rear) was put up on a stage slideshow while Mr Stubbins told the audience that they had lost the parade three times on the day, pointing out that when you lead a horse with a naked woman on it, you don't spend much time looking where you're going!
- Credited as "Mr. Stubbins", the character's first name was given in dialogue.
