Geoffrey Dyson Palmer OBE (born 4th June, 1927) is one of Britain's most recognisable actors of film and television, whose best known role is arguably that of the dour Lionel Hardcastle in the BBC sitcom As Time Goes By. His sole appearance on Coronation Street was in May 1968 where he played Victor Finlay, the superintendent registrar at the wedding of Dennis Tanner and Jenny Sutton. He also appeared in two separate roles in the Street spin-off Pardon the Expression.

He has made many appearances on the big and small screens, in such television series as Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers, Butterflies and Blackadder Goes Forth, and films such as A Fish Called Wanda in 1988, The Madness of King George (1994), Mrs Brown (1997), and the 1997 James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies.
