Gary Barrymore Raymond (born 20th April 1935 in Brixton, London) appeared on Coronation Street in July 1985 as sales rep Wally Trainer, who linked up with Bet Lynch in a Blackpool hotel when she was on holiday there with Rita Fairclough and Mavis Riley.
He is the third of three sons born into a theatrical family as his parents were music hall entertainers. After school in Leicester, he joined RADA at the age of 18 after which he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company.
His other television credits include roles in The Black Brigand, Martin Chuzzlewit, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Rat Patrol, What Maisie Knew, Sherlock Holmes, Who-Dun-It, Dombey and Son, The Doctors, Harriet's Back in Town, The Cedar Tree, Scarlett and House of the Dragon.
Film roles include The Moonraker, Look Back in Anger, Suddenly, Last Summer, The Millionairess, El Cid, Jason and the Argonauts, Traitor's Gate, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Massacre Harbor, God's Outlaw, The Foreigner, S.N.U.B! and Sex, Marriage and Infidelity.
On stage, he appeared in productions of Much Ado About Nothing, King Lear, Irma la Douce, Castle in Sweden, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Complaisant Lover, Look After Lulu!, Androcles and the Lion, Cards on the Table, Betrayal, Pommies, A Little Night Music, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Orange Moll, The Heiress and Look Back in Anger.
