Gareth McLean was a storyliner on Coronation Street for 379 episodes and two stints in the role from August to November 2012, and from May 2013 to August 2014. Until Episode 8393 (23rd May 2014) the position was termed a "story associate".
He studied English at the University of Aberdeen, working at The Scotsman newspaper from 1997 and then the TV critic for The Guardian from 2000 until 2003. He has continued to contribute to Attitude, Woman's Hour, The Message, The Media Show and The Arts Show.
He wrote the monologue Something Borrowed for the 2017 series Queers.
