Frank Grimes (born 1947 in Dublin) is an Irish actor, producer and director who appeared on Coronation Street as Barry Connor - father of Liam, Michelle and Paul. He originally appeared as the character from November to December 2008, July to November 2009 and reprised the role again for two brief stints in October 2013 and May 2015.
He achieved his first major success as the young Brendan Behan in the 1967 stage adaptation of Behan's autobiography, Borstal Boy, at the Abbey Theatre. When the production moved to Broadway in 1970, Grimes was nominated for a Tony Award for best actor. In the early 1970s, Grimes moved to London where he was offered a part in a production of David Storey's play The Farm - the success of which established his reputation in British theatre.
His other TV and film credits include roles in Tulips of Haarlem, Centre Play, Six Days of Justice, A Bridge Too Far, The Old Crowd, Strumpet City, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, Lady Chatterley, The Wingless Bird, Silent Witness, Kavanagh QC, The Vice, Holby City, Wire in the Blood, The Bill, Doctors and Casualty, whilst on the other side of the camera, he has been credited as Field Producer on several documentaries and Segment Director on ten episodes of the TV series Ripley's Believe It or Not! between 2000 and 2003.
