The unnamed Trucker was one of two men having a conversation on CB radio which Hilda Ogden intercepted on Eddie Yeats's transceiver. She was fascinated by the pastime and even came up with her own handle - "Shady Lady". She did find it hard though to understand the slang-filled conversation when the trucker ("Tricky Mickey") told his friend that there was a "smokescreen" (speed trap) on the road. When she tried to join in, she heard herself described as a "smoothleg on the side" and was puzzled when she was asked "what's your twenty?" and had to have it explained to her that this meant her CB handle. Telling the first trucker that her "twenty" (residence) was in Weatherfield ("Thundertown"), the trucker suggested an "eyeball" (meeting), at which point "background" (interference on the wavelength) led him to change to channel 32, losing Hilda from the conversation.
When she told a dozing Stan Ogden that she had conducted a "mad passionate affair" with a man on the wireless who had suggested a meeting with her and asked what he thought of that, he replied "serves him right".
