The Fire Officer put out a fire started accidentally by Dennis Tanner when he was decorating 15 Mawdsley Street for Len Fairclough. Dennis's blowtorch had ignited some paint and rags, and the fire crew had to pull up the floorboards to make sure there were no stray sparks underneath them. Having put the fire out, the officer questioned Dennis for his report, telling him that the carpets had been damaged beyond further use. He was startled to find out that the property belonged to Councillor Fairclough and wished Dennis luck in dealing with the local official when he realised what had been done to his house.

His role as the fire officer was one of the earliest television appearances for Patrick Stewart, who would go on to achieve worldwide recognition for his many stage, screen and film roles.
