Fiona Kingsman-Lloyd presided over the trial of Les Battersby-Brown of assaulting police officer Mick Hopwood in May 2003, a charge for which, for once, he was totally innocent of, albeit he had provoked Mick beyond measure as he was in a relationship with his ex, Janice.

Mick's colleague Emma Watts, gave perjured testimony in support of her colleague and the next witness was Dave Arden, a homeless man who had witnessed the incident appeared for the defence. Prosecution barrister Simon Darcy's opening question was to confirm that Dave didn't like the police. John Rivers for the defence objected to the form of the question and was backed up by Ms Kingsman-Lloyd in her only notable intervention.

The jury found Les guilty. The judge saw no reason to ask for reports before sentencing and after hearing pleas for mitigation from Mr Rivers sent Les to prison for six months, in part for supposedly showing no remorse and also slandering the reputation of two police officers.
