The Porter worked at Weatherfield General when Tim Metcalfe underwent a triple heart bypass in January 2022. The need for the operation had already been diagnosed by Dr Handley, but before any action could be taken Tim suffered an acute angina attack and was rushed in.

On the day of the operation, the porter appeared with a nurse to break the news to Tim that an earlier patient had been cancelled and they were ready for him in theatre now. Tim panicked, saying he had to see wife Sally before he went under the knife but with a full surgical team waiting, he had no choice to go with the pair.

As Tim went under the anaesthetic, he thought he heard his wife fighting valiantly with a policeman in the corridor. After the six-hour procedure, the porter wheeled him back to the bed telling Tim he hadn't seen his wife as his job was just to wheel people around. They passed a vending machine, the glass of which had been broken and the porter made an awful joke that the food in the hospital was so bad that people became "hangry".

Later on, he went off shift and said goodbye to Tim, handing him his copy of the Weatherfield Gazette when he was asked if he'd finished with it. Visitors Kevin Webster and Faye Windass tried to prevent him reading it, but had to give in and Tim saw that its front page had the headline that Sally had been photographed urinating in Victoria Gardens on New Year's Eve. When the police tried to speak to her about the matter in the hospital, she had resisted arrest and the fight next to the vending machine that he thought he had heard had been all too real.
