James Cossins (born 4th December 1933 in Beckenham, Kent; died 12th February 1997 in Alton, Hampshire) appeared on Coronation Street in February 1965 as Alex Soames, personnel officer at Gamma Garments, who interviewed Elsie Tanner for a position.

After serving in the RAF he trained at RADA. He appeared initially as an actor in repertory and at the Nottingham Playhouse and also appeared in Compact, No Hiding Place, The Likely Lads, The Avengers, Dr. Finlay's Casebook, The Wednesday Play, Bless This House, Callan, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Fawlty Towers, Z Cars, Love Thy Neighbour, The Sweeney, Crown Court, Play for Today , Bergerac, All Creatures Great and Small and Murder Most Horrid.

Film roles include parts in Darling, How I Won the War , Villain, Young Winston, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Great Train Robbery and Ghandi.

Stage roles included parts in The Keep, Love’s Labour’s Lost, All The King's Men, The Anniversary, The Beggar’s Opera, She Stoops to Conquer, The Taming of the Shrew, Charley’s Aunt, Alphabetical Order, Confusions, Man and Superman, The Play’s The Thing and Stage Struck.
