The gum-chewing Factory Girl, employed at Elliston's Raincoat Factory, called into the corner shop one morning when Florrie Lindley was preoccupied in the back trying to find a packet of oatmeal for an impatient Ena Sharples. The pensioner told the girl that as she was on double-time-and-a-half she wasn't wise to waste her time waiting to get served. The worker replied that as she was only after a hairnet to hold her rollers down and was advised by Ena to try Valerie Barlow's salon at No.9 instead. The factory girl was adamant though - the other girls had advised her to ask at Florrie's as she got in a special stock of thick hairnets "for some old biddy"! Ena, with a scarf over her own hairnet to protect her from the pouring rain outside, glowered angrily at her and refused to let her jump the queue. Tired of waiting, the girl gave up and left to call at No.9 instead.

The part is notable for being played by Sandra Gough, less than two months before her debut as Irma Ogden.
